I go by Tina. I'm a vertically challenged and awkward person. I am usually busy, so forgive me for slow updates. This is my art/process blog. I also answer most messages privately.

  1. This was about…3 weeks ago? (wow!) Been meaning to upload this but kept getting sidetracked by everything else.

I was putting together my frames for SOI. (Also got lots of nice tips to make it easier and faster the next time I go frame something.) Ellie was already wrapped and done when I remembered to take pictures, which was okay, compared to last year where I forgot to even bring the camera.

It was an … adventure. From assembling the frames on a deadline, to hauling them to fedex (walked and got a bit lost; the directions I got was a block short), and then shipping cost panic! (400?! 270!? …. went down to 200 in the end, which was ok since I wasn’t even paying for it. (yay)) It was overall a fantastic day once everything was over. (FedEx dude was super helpful, sun was shining, got my pay stub, and got myself a new book.)

  2. I was going to update with something else… but, I’m feeling a bit lazy. So, here are a few …somewhat recent sketches instead.

  3. Finally got a chance to take photos of this book! (it’s not in my possession)

This is a not really small side project that started really late in the last semester (which wasn’t a really good idea, cause we were all really really busy). It’s a compilation of works from 11 (plus me equals 12) awesome people I know! The book has 120 pages in total, and was organized/put together by Sylvia and I, and with help from Lou! All I can say is that it was definitely a learning experience and that the covers are really really GLOSSY!

Anyway, you guys can check/preview the book out HERE!!

  4. This was a class assignment for Editorial illustration this Spring semester, which was to create a cover for a magazine. I chose to do a New Yorker cover.

The second image is the revised version of the class assignment; since the article was on health care.

  5. pretty much it.

    MAP (temporary title) ver. 1.0

38.5”x27” Inkjet Print mounted on Foam Core.

  6. To Clarify

I had a very jammed pack day yesterday. In the morning, I prepared. In the early afternoon, I graduated. In the evening I attended the Emily Carr University Degree Exhibition of 2012. Afterwards I had a family dinner (yummy).

I feel like I pretty much floated through everything.

Then I checked tumblr before going to bed; and my dash had exploded, my follower count did not look like what it was when I checked it that morning, and I had a lot more messages than I remembered. It was a kind of weird moment. I had no idea what happened until I read some messages. Turns out I made radar. Kind of had a ‘YAY’ moment and then hurried to get a screenshot.

After reading a few messages and some more, I realized that there might have been a small misunderstanding for some of you. I’d like to clarify. That piece in my latest photoset is NOT a mural, it is a digital print of a very large file (I hit the 2GB save limit in Photoshop a few times. Yes, there is a save limit. I was pretty shocked myself. I know how to get around that but I was a bit lazy.). I did the lines by hand (no cut and paste) and then scanned it in to color on photoshop; because with this piece, it was kind of hard to figure out how I wanted to color it. In the picture of my last post, I was just painting a little bit to the walls during the installation. Cause my piece kind of looked plain and lonely on its own (I didn’t get to start/finish the second piece on time) in a room full of awesomeness. So, yea, pretty much it.

Some other things while I’m at it:

    • The digital print looks smaller in real life.
    • I painted with watercolors on the wall, it’s easy to erase, though some color still remain behind; very faintly though.
    • I painted on school walls, not my own.
    • For that piece I took around 8 months because I kept on changing how I was going to do it (Traditional to half traditional and half digital and then full on digital and some traditional). And I spent around 2-3 months for the digital version (I still had other classes to hand in assignments too).
    • I think I might title it with ver. 1.0 at the end, cause I still have things I want to add to it.
    • Yes, I am planning on opening an online shop later this summer!
    • Yes, I am Vietnamese.

Will upload more photos later this week!

For now, thanks for liking my art/blog enough to follow me :’D

  7. STILL WORKING

Although, I finally got my Map printed! Not exactly ‘done done’ but close enough that it looks finished! I’ll still work on it though …later.

  8. still in progress…

  9. The semester’s finally over! Though I’m still going to be quite busy preparing things for grad and working on my project :C

Anyway, these cake characters were created for Children’s book class based on a story I made up based on my at-the-time craving of cakes. As you can see they’re not quite happy. Why? That’s because they don’t want to be eaten; but they’ll get eaten in the end anyway. I didn’t really plan out a happy ending for them. C:

They also don’t have very creative names either. Forest, Cheese, and Ick. My favourite would be Cheese, although I don’t eat cheese cake often.

Out of curiosity which one’s your favourite?

  10. Here’s a project I did a while ago for children’s book class! I’m actually missing a page in this set; same goes for the other two other projects I’ve done for this class. I’ll post a art dump of the missing pages later!

10 really busy days left!! C:
